Gronk vs. Blount: There Can Be Only One ... Playing 'Madden 18' on Xbox One X
Posted by: Gronkowski
Rob Gronkowski and LeGarrette Blount used to be teammates but now they are bitter rivals … No, we’re not talking about Super Bowl LII, silly!
There was another hard-fought match-up going on way before the Patriots and Eagles take to the field at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Sunday.
The star tight end and the former Pats running back battled it out by going head-to-head playing "Madden 18" on Xbox One X at the Xbox Live Sessions: Super Bowl Edition on Tuesday night (all photos courtesy of AP images/Jeff Lewis on behalf of Xbox).
We're hoping the result isn't a premonition of SB LII, as while he put up a passionate fight, Gronk ended up losing 33-13 to Blount -- partly thanks to a a pick-6 by Malcolm Jenkins to close out the first quarter.
We take that as a sign that Rob is spending more time in the gym than sat around playing "Madden"!
Gronk did manage to complete a reception ... to himself -- celebrating joyously as he was tackled on the one-yard line.
NFL Network host Deion Sanders called the shots during the game and made sure there were no flags thrown.
In Gronk's defense, he is way more of a pro at "Call of Duty" Zombie Mode than he is a Madden (according to our "insider," Barstool Sports' Devlin).
While the showdown was broadcast LIVE on the Mixer Xbox Channel, those lucky enough to score a spot in Minneapolis for the week got to watch it in-person at the Microsoft Store in Mall of America.
Gronk is no stranger to the world of video games, of course. Aside from playing them pretty much all the time that he wasn't in football pads as a kid, he won the coveted spot on "Madden NFL 17."
This year, EA Sports’ picked another Patriot - none other than Tom Brady for the Madden NFL 18 "G.O.A.T. edition."
Blount won two Super Bowl rings in New England before signing with Philadelphia last offseason, and Gronk has two Super Bowl rings with them -- who'll have a third by the end of Sunday night?
Xbox Live Sessions is an interactive livestream series hosted on the Mixer Xbox Channel. The series, which launched on Aug.25, 2017 with DJ Khaled, features celebrity guests as they play their favorite games on Xbox. Past guests have included James Corden, Liam Payne, Caleb McLaughlin, Ronda Rousey and Brooklyn Beckham.
